Acupuncture
and
Traditional
Chinese Medicine
Chinese
medicine is one of the most ancient healing arts dating back over 200
years. It stimulates the body to heal through the use of acupuncture
and herbs. Over centuries of experience, oriental medicine has
selected appropriate herbs and locations on the body (acupuncture points)
which can have specific healing qualities for various conditions. As
a matter of fact, acupuncture was first used to treat horses in the
Warring Stages in China. Horses were considered as extremely
valuable, and when they were ill, acupuncture was an often used treatment
modality. It was after the well documented use of acupuncture on
horses that then it also became useful for people.
ENERGY
CIRCUITS
Mammals
have twelve basic energy circuits that run through the body. Each of
the basic circuits connects to one of the major organs of the body -
lungs, heart, liver, spleen, stomach, large and small intestines, kidneys,
urinary bladder, gallbladder - or to the front and back midlines of the
body which have special functions in Chinese medicine. By activating
the energy on these circuits corresponding to organ function or the
location of a pain, treatment is directed to the precise location needed
and stimulates the proper chemical healing processes. Through
precise knowledge of this circuitry and correct selection of points on the
circuits, the correct combination of acu-points becomes effective to
effect specific medicinal results.
HOW
IS ENERGY RELATED TO MEDICINE?
We
often talk about energy in the day to day world without really
understanding its significance. For example, I don't have enough
energy to do all my chores. What does this really mean?
Usually it means you're too tired to do all your chores. But why?
Why some days do you have more energy than others? Energetic medicine is a
field that is just now becoming recognized in our western culture.
It is something that has been central to oriental medicine for centuries.
It is now more accepted in western culture be cause we now have the
technologically advanced equipment to be able to see it with our eyes and
understand it with modern advances. The ancient cultures were
aware of energy and accepted it without the need for scientific proovings.
Energy is life force. It is the essence that keeps the heart
beating, the blood flowing, the nerves reacting and the mind thinking.
All living beings are alive because they have functional energetics.
As
the base component for the functioning of organs and tissues, by
regulating, balancing, and increasing the energy that flows throughout the
circuits, a trained acupuncturist can accurately direct healing of exact
functions. Deep, internal chronic diseases can be helped as well as
more superficial external conditions.
IS
ACUPUNCTURE WITHOUT NEEDLES AS EFFECTIVE?
Most
pets enjoy acupuncture as it is very relaxing. However, sometimes it
is so relaxing that it can be difficult to keep your pet from rolling over
and stretching during a treatment. This is why Dr. St. Clair usually
prefers needleless acupuncture. As acupuncture is considered an art
form, appropriate acu-points selection is based upon Dr. St. Clair's
training and twenty years experience. This precise skill can give
your pet incredible vitality and wonderful healing results for many
difficult to treat conditions. Using this particular type of
needleless acupuncture, your pet can be replenished with energy that has
been diminished through time, stress or disease much more quickly than via
traditional methods. It's like adding fuel to the body when the
energy tank is low. Additionally, since many diseases are age
related or of a degenerative nature, the needleless technique she uses is
actually more effective than traditional acupuncture.
